Sometimes Our Biggest Obstacle is January

Ohio Citizen Action is known for our canvassing- it’s what we do! But being a year-round canvassing organization in Ohio comes with its own challenges… like JANUARY. There comes a point when between the bitter cold temperatures and blankets of snow that knocking on doors just isn’t safe. So what happens then? Do we just stop doing the work? 

Absolutely not. 

There is always work to be done, but sometimes we have to get creative. To continue the work, our field canvassers have taken on a role that is similar but comes with its own challenges. Phone canvassing. Our phone canvass team also works year round, reaching out to members and supporters. They provide updates on our work to people we have already talked to. 

With the help of Linda, our volunteer coordinator, our field staff is doing something a little different. They’re getting trained in deep canvassing principles and putting them to the test right away to support the No Ban on Property Rights campaign. 

Despite winter storms and unpredictable weather the work continues. Our staff is resilient and adaptable. But if we give you a call… please answer the phone!
