Environment
- Sykes has voted pro-environment on 100% of House bills since taking office, according to the League of Conservation Voters.
- On her campaign website, Sykes highlights climate protection as a key issue, access to clean water, clean air, and a clean environment is a basic human right.
- While a State Representative, Sykes voted against SB 52, an Ohio Senate Bill (and now law) that placed limits on solar developments and allowed county governments to block solar developments, which OCA vocally advocated against.
Public Health
- Introduced RAIL act in the US House in response to East Palestine train derailment in 2023.
- $46 million investment into the Canton Water department - the Canton Water Department will ensure high quality, affordable drinking water while creating dozens of good-paying, union jobs operating and maintaining the system for decades to come.
Democracy
- Co-sponsored the women’s health protection act “H.R. 12 would protect and expand the constitutional right to abortion by guaranteeing access to abortion care and preventing medically unnecessary restrictions that disproportionately impact marginalized communities.”
- Co-sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to protect your basic right to join a union and advocate for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions
- Co-sponsored the Freedom to Vote Act, legislation to improve access to the ballot for Americans, advance commonsense federal election standards and campaign finance reforms, and protect our democracy.
- Endorsed legislation by the caucus that includes the postage free ballot act, National Voting Rights month designation, Securing America’s Federal Elections (SAFE) act, For the People Act, and the Voting Rights advancement act.
Consumer Rights
- Cosponsored the Raise the Wage Act of 2023 to raise federal minimum wage annually, increasing to $17/hr. within 5 years of passing the act, and then annually to be determined by the Secretary of Labor.
