Marcy Kaptur is the longest serving woman in the history of Congress, being first elected in 1983. She is the second-longest serving current Member on the House Appropriations Committee.

  • Kaptur has a 100% score from League of Conservation Voters for 2023.
  • Congresswoman Kaptur supports a permanent ban on drilling in the Great Lakes, of which Lake Erie is the shallowest, and a strict ban on diversion of Great Lakes water. 
  • Congresswoman Kaptur continues to secure federal dollars to construct the Ottawa Wildlife Refuge Complex and acquire land for the refuge.
  • Green energy project funding including $45.1 Million for Libbey Glass LLC’s Toledo Ohio, facility; Cleveland Cliffs for a total award of $575 Million, Owens-Brockway with a total award of $125 Million, and Kraft-Heinz for $16 million for Fremont, Ohio facility.

Public Health

  • Kaptur holds a 95% rating from NARAL. Her position on abortion has evolved over the years to include a commitment to protecting reproductive freedom. 

Democracy

  • Co-sponsored The Freedom to Vote Act ensures all Americans can vote in secure, accessible, transparent elections. It protects the right to vote, supports local election workers, bans dark money, and ends partisan gerrymandering, so that our democracy works for the people.  

Consumer Rights

  • April 25, 2024 reaffirmed net neutrality -protecting the open internet is a win for all Americans. Ensures that broadband providers cannot not slow down or block users' access to certain websites, or be allowed to speed up access to other websites that pay extra for the privilege.
  • Co-sponsor of the Social Security 2100 Act. Congresswoman Kaptur fully supports maintaining traditional Social Security and finding ways to effectively extend it without cutting benefits to our nation's seniors. Social Security 2100 will provide an across-the-board benefit increase for all recipients, ensure benefits better reflect seniors' expenses, repeal the WEP/GPO that penalizes public servants, cut taxes for 23 million beneficiaries, and extend the solvency of the Social Security Trust Fund by asking billionaires to pay their fair share.
  • Champion of eliminating loopholes in the Buy American Act to ensure that Congress buys American made products when it procures products from the private sector.
  • Has consistently fought against unfair trade agreements like NAFTA.
  • As a member of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus, Congresswoman Kaptur is always looking for ways to help manufacturing remain a source of good-paying, sustainable American jobs. Also serves as a member of the House Labor Caucus.
