Background

Ohio Citizen Action (OCA) seeks an energetic and creative Digital Communications Associate to assist in developing and executing the organization’s varied digital communications efforts. OCA campaigns currently underway include but are not limited to: work to de-carbonize the electricity sector, and promote clean and renewable energy in Ohio; lead OCA’s grassroots and community engagement efforts within the Power A Clean Future Ohio campaign; and represent the organization in local and statewide efforts to support utility shutoff moratoria, in particular during the pandemic.

Ohio Citizen Action (OCA) is the premier grassroots mobilizing and organizing team in the Midwest. OCA organizes and mobilizes people to advocate for public interests. In person, by phone, and online, we engage people in actions that protect public health, improve environmental quality, and benefit consumers.

Summary

Reporting directly to the Digital Communications Director, the Digital Communications Associate also works closely with the Organizing Team and the Development team to ensure that communications, fundraising, and campaign strategy is consistently integrated throughout the organization’s varied digital platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Implement aggressive digital communications strategies at the state and local level;

  • Identify new digital communications avenues;

  • Create and edit compelling digital content to inspire membership recruitment, retention, and engagement;

  • Increase the social media reach of Ohio Citizen Action and push our message directly to targeted stakeholders;

  • Maintain and update websites and social media channels with original content daily, including some graphics;

  • Continuously assess social media landscape and identify key messengers across all social platforms;

  • Conduct work in a manner that consistently aligns with OCA’s core values; and

  • Other duties as assigned by the Digital Communications Director or Executive Director

Qualifications

  • One to two years of experience in digital communications and/or organizing required

  • Experience working with CRM and social media platforms a must.

  • Creative approach to digital communications is essential.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, especially for online platforms and diverse audiences.

  • Ability to self-teach new online platforms.

  • Bachelor’s degree appreciated but not required

  • Commitment to Ohio Citizen Action’s mission and goals.

  • Able to work remotely or within the Cleveland, Ohio office.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail.

  • Nonprofit or political experience a plus.
