November 8, 2006 Governor-elect Ted Strickland
Congratulations on your election. As governor, you will have the opportunity to use the powers of the state government to protect the health and safety of all Ohioans. As you know, Ohio Citizen Action makes a practice of "following the money" in Ohio politics. Leading up to the election, we have issued several analyses of the contribution patterns in this year's statewide elections. Campaign contributors, particularly those who represent corporate interests, always have an agenda in mind when they contribute to political candidates. I am enclosing a copy of an analysis we have done of the contributors to your gubernatorial campaign, as well as the historical relationship you have had with the coal and utility interests in this state. These interests are your most significant campaign contributors from a particular economic sector. Ohio may be the epicenter of U.S. politics, but we are also the epicenter of utility emissions that contribute to acid rain, mercury contamination of our waters, and global warming, as well as major nuclear safety issues. I propose we meet to discuss how you plan to approach these matters as governor. Sincerely,
