Major Employers

Major employers are some of the biggest users of electricity, whether they occupy a factory or an office building. Three coalitions are representing the interests of these employers in the current energy debate. Because these companies can come together to create coalitions that are even more powerful than the companies separately, they can negotiate lower electricity rates for themselves at the expense of residential users.

From January 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007, the employees of and political action committees associated with the members of Industrial Energy Users Ohio, the Ohio Energy Group, and the Ohio Manufacturers' Association contributed $688,629 to current statewide officeholders and members of the Ohio General Assembly. Of the contributions to the General Assembly, $303,027 went to the House, and $236,860 to the Senate. These same entities also contributed $150,636 to the two major political parties.
