AFL-CIO

In general, Ohio AFL-CIO state policy positions follow those of member unions in the relevant industries. In turn, those positions follow those of their employers, except for issues of collective bargaining and contributions to candidates and parties. On coal and utility issues, the most vocal unions are the Unite Mine Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and construction trade unions.

From January 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007, the AFL-CIO contributed a total of $148,093 to the current members of the Ohio General Assembly ($60,393 to the House, $16,540 to the Senate) and statewide officeholders. The AFL-CIO also contributed $121,750 to the Ohio Democratic Party, and nothing to the Ohio Republican Party.
