LOS ANGELES -- A coalition of environmental activists, meanwhile, called on Gore to keep a promise he made in 1992: closing and cleaning up a Waste Technologies Industry incinerator site in East Liverpool, Ohio. As vice president-elect, Gore called for an investigation of the plant and promised that the "Clinton-Gore administration would not issue the plant a test burn permit until the questions are answered." The White House eventually sided with WTI and blamed the problem on the Bush administration. The Gore campaign had no comment Wednesday. - - Tom Squitieri
