Weekend of Action in Vienna

August 24-26, 2006

Driving into Marietta on Thursday afternoon at 1:45 pm, I saw a large orange cloud rising from Eramet's smoke stacks. The orange dust lasted for about ten minutes, and then dissipated into the air. There was a haze around the plant all weekend.

Ohio Citizen Action canvassers went door-to-door on August 24th and 25th in Vienna, WV, across the river from Marietta. Vienna residents were very supportive of the good neighbor campaign: 246 residents signed to show they support the campaign and 61 neighbors wrote letters to Russ Craig, Eramet CEO.

Also on Thursday, Neighbors for Clean Air presented the Citizens' Audit of Eramet to Vienna City Council. The Council was overwhelmingly supportive, asking good questions of the group and commending the neighbors work.

We ended the weekend by passing out pollution logs on Robinson Hill Road, Cole-Coffman Rd and Michaelis in Marietta. - Ruth Breech, Ohio Citizen Action
