We are urging Kroger and Wal-Mart to take the lead in making
sure the Teflon chemical "C8" is eliminated from food packaging.
Please send an email to H. Lee Scott, President and CEO of Wal-Mart and
Kroger CEO David Dillon. Some points to include:
Under pressure from consumers and the U.S. EPA, DuPont has just
announced a phase-out of the Teflon chemical "C8," by the
year 2015. The chemical, which is used to make non-stick and greaseproof
coatings, can cause cancer and reproductive defects and has been found
in the blood of 95% of Americans.
We urge Wal-Mart to use its considerable clout to ensure that the first
order of business in the phase-out is to remove these chemicals from
food packaging, such as microwave popcorn, candy wrappers, and frozen
foods.
I do not want my family's health to be endangered by chemicals that
the EPA has deemed to be unsafe.
Please ask your food suppliers to let Wal-Mart know how and when they
will eliminate these dangerous chemicals from their packaging and switch
to a safe substitute.
Sincerely,
