Dear Mr. Paul:

Thank you for your letter of March 11, 2004. I told you in our February 25 meeting that Ohio Citizen Action would not consider taking $5,000 from Columbus Steel Drum for any purpose, whether "directed" to local environmental education or otherwise. Yet, knowing we would not accept this money, you went ahead and put a provision stating you would give us this money in the settlement documents, which you filed with the court after our meeting -- as we learned from the media this week.

Ohio Citizen Action is a membership organization and communications about our campaigns are made available to our members through our website. We will continue to post our letter to Judge Hale, as well as your March 11, 2004 letter to me.

Ohio Citizen Action will consider a company "a good neighbor" only if the company takes care of its environmental problems, cleans up its act, and improves its health and safety procedures. Many companies Ohio Citizen Action have worked with in the past fall into that category. You can see those companies and their specific improvements listed on our website. These companies deserve to be in a good neighbor category with only those companies who have shown the same level of commitment to pollution prevention and public health and safety.
