![]() April 1, 2009 Dear Dr. Gee, On behalf of the 400,000 members of ProgressOhio.org, over 25,000 of which are active on environmental issues, I have enclosed an online petition that respectfully asks you to resign from the Board of Massey Energy given your role as a leader in Higher Education and in the development of sustainable green technology. You may note that in a span of 48 hours over 550 members signed a petition asking you to step down from the Massey Board and over 350 left comments which I have attached. Many of these comments speak admirably about the many fine qualities Ohioans have come to know of you from both of your tenures at Ohio State. Many comments expressed surprise at the seemingly incongruous positions of your known discussion on environmental educational and developmental leadership and your position on Massey's Board. As such, I would ask that you strongly consider the role that you can play in this dialogue by taking action resigning from Massey and using this as an opportunity to educate your vast constituency at the University and as a leader in both Ohio and Higher Education of the need to take a strong stand on environmental justice issues. I had attempted earlier this year to reach out and discuss this issue. Although I have been a critic in this instance, I am, as always open to discussing this further. Best Regards, Brian Rothenberg Executive Director, ProgressOhio.org |
