Editorial Roses and raspberries: Suspicious timing

Elyria Chronicle-Telegram April 24, 2000 Raspberries to Lorain City Councilwoman Anne Molnar, D-At large, for questionable timing. Molnar proposed an ordinance banning all soliciation after sundown just as members of Ohio Citizen Action have been seeking signatures in support of a ban on beryllium. The Citizen Action members go door-to-door between 4 and 9 p.m. because that's when most folks are home. Molnar said she proposed the law out of concern for senior citizens who might be firghtened to get a knock on the door after dark. We can appreciate that concern, and we think solicitors for any cause ought to be sensitive to tha apprehension some people might feel. But the fact that Molnar is a vociferous opponent of a beryllium ban makes us suspicious about her motives.
