Workers call on EPA
Officials with the United
Steelworkers of America and members of the
Sierra Club environmental group
will host a press conference today to call on the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
to conduct more rigorous testing of a former
AK Steel plant in Hamilton. The
USWA members expected to be at the press conference include some of
the more than 600 workers locked out of AK Steel's plant in
Mansfield, Ohio, for more than three years. The activists plan to
cite an environmental report by consulting firm
Bennett and Williams that they
say found areas of environmental concern that merit more
investigation.
