We succeed one door at a time!

Ohio Citizen Action has pioneered many of the approaches and techniques now widely followed by citizens groups across the nation. Over the past 10 years, we’ve devoted many of our resources to running and winning good neighbor campaigns, which use the power of community organizing to convince major industries to prevent pollution at their facilities.

Are we effective? Don't take our word for it. Ask neighbors—or executives—of companies like Sunoco Refinery (Toledo), FirstEnergy's Davis Besse Nuclear Plant (Port Clinton), Mittal Steel (Cleveland), Eramet (Marietta), Georgia-Pacific (Columbus), AK Steel (Middletown), and countless others.

We’ve also just kicked off our newest campaign to stop AMP-Ohio’s proposed coal plant that will pollute neighbors in Ohio, Kentucky and nearby states; and lock participating communities into a 50-year contract with old technology and skyrocketing costs. Our campaign staff unites communities to end mountaintop removal coal mining, a source of coal for the proposed plant, which contaminates our waterways and destroys the Appalachian Mountains.

Today, our campaigns literally dot the map. Their success relies on individuals just like you who go into neighborhoods, petitioning, fundraising, dropping off information, and recruiting members and volunteers. We’ve made over 8.5 million door-step visits in our years of serving Ohio. We know it’s what keep us growing and vital, and what makes our work a success.
