David Raack’s first contact with Ohio Citizen Action was through a door to door visit. David was canvassed on Brush Wellman when he lived in Findlay. He remembers a young man was that was “very helpful in conveying the importance of the issue and why I should get involved.”
Since becoming a board member, David says he is impressed with the level of enthusiasm and competence of his fellow board members, Ohio Citizen Action’s full time employees, and the good neighbor campaign approach:
It seems to me that this organization is taking a different approach. It is less adversarial than other environmental groups. It is more conciliatory. I like that we can appeal to the better side of companies. We all have to live here. Let’s figure out a way – a promising non-confrontational way - to find common ground. It’s a good way to make a difference. We can improve problems - not by demands, but in a spirit of cooperation. It’s not us against you.
David teaches environmental law at Ohio Northern University College of Law.
One of my interests has been enjoying the outdoors and nature: hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing. I strongly believe we need to preserve those parts of nature that are the foundation of our ecosystem. It is my endeavor in the courses I teach to emphasize what we can do to protect the parts of our environment that provide us with clean air to breathe and water to drink. We all need to do what we can through preservation and conservation. We have to be very careful in terms of what we’re giving up.
