Edward Kelly, 54;

lawyer and activist

dward F. Kelly, an attorney and activist formerly affiliated with the group Ohio Citizen Action, died of colon cancer Sunday in his home in Allston. He was 54.

Mr. Kelly was born in New Brunswick, N.J. He graduated from Boston College and Harvard Law School and earned a master's degree in library science at Case Western University.

A former librarian in Youngstown, Ohio, from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s, he was affiliated with Ohio Citizen Action, where he worked on plant-closing legislation, electricity deregulation, and other issues.

Locally, he was affiliated with several groups, including Massachusetts Citizen Action in Cambridge and the Campaign for Fair Electric Rates.

He leaves a son, Eamon of Allston; his mother, Ann (Cleary) of Needham; his partner, Paula Tirrell of West Roxbury; and two brothers, Frank of Waltham and William of Sharon.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Theresa Church in West Roxbury. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
